Andrea Chapdelaine has served as the 11th president of Hood College in Frederick, MD since 2015.

 

President Chapdelaine has guided the Hood College community through two inclusive strategic planning processes and the College’s successful Forging the Future campaign. During her tenure, the College expanded academic programs, including the first doctoral programs and the first two named schools: the George B. Delaplaine Jr. School of Business and the Ruth Whitaker Holmes School of Behavioral and Health Sciences at the Frederick Health campus.

 

Building upon the strength of Hood’s community, President Chapdelaine established the Division of Community and Inclusivity in order to foster a sense of belonging and well-being in students, staff, and faculty and to advance diversity and equity efforts. President Chapdelaine established a staff council and worked with trustees and faculty to strengthen shared governance.

 

Through her focus on community partnerships, she has significantly expanded Hood’s reach and experiential learning opportunities for students. She led the establishment of the Martha Church Center for Civic Engagement and increased connections to government research entities to provide research and training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students and strengthen collaborations between Hood faculty and national laboratory staff.

 

President Chapdelaine was named to Frederick MD’s Top 50 CEO List and as one of The Daily Record’s Top 100 Women in Maryland. Dr. Chapdelaine is a board member of the American Association of Colleges and Universities, the Council of Independent Colleges, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, where she serves as the chair of the committee on tax policy. She is also a member of the Maryland workforce development board.

 

Dr. Chapdelaine began her teaching career at Wabash College and then taught at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and Albright College in Reading, PA. At Albright, she served as the dean of undergraduate studies and provost. President Chapdelaine, a proud first-generation student, earned a doctoral and master’s degrees in social psychology from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of New Hampshire.
